What type of apartment community is Luther Manor?
Luther Manor is an apartment community for the elderly, sponsored by Virginia Lutheran Homes, Inc. It is a three-story structure consisting of 117 one-bedroom apartments and 6 two-bedroom apartments. Included in these 123 apartments are 23 designed for those with accessibility needs. Apartments are easily accessible by elevators and parking spaces are available for those having cars.
Where is Luther Manor?
Luther Manor is centrally located in the city of Virginia Beach on Malibu Drive, one block off Virginia Beach Boulevard, just east of Rosemont Road. Within easy access are two major shopping centers and a public bus service runs the extent of Virginia Beach Blvd. to these shopping areas and the ocean front recreation areas.
What does each apartment include?
Each apartment contains a living room-dining room area, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and ample storage space. Apartments are furnished with carpeting, window blinds and there are individually controlled thermostats for air conditioning and heating. Kitchens have apartment-sized stoves and refrigerators.
How much does it cost to live at Luther Manor?
Rentals are based on the individual resident’s yearly income. The rental fee includes all utilities except telephone. Meals are not included in the rental rate; however, residents are required to purchase one meal a day in the dining room at an additional monthly charge. Two meals are available but not mandatory. Meals are serviced in the community dining room overlooking the courtyard area. The dining room is also open to the guests of the residents.
What else does Luther Manor offer?
In addition to the dining area, Luther Manor features a multi-purpose room for recreation, crafts, etc., and lounge space on every floor, Laundromat, and beauty salon for the enjoyment and convenience of residents. A maintenance service is provided, cable television is available and protective fire safety features have been installed in each apartment and throughout the entire complex. A part time medical clinic is also available.
Can I qualify to live at Luther Manor?
Luther Manor is a HUD, section 202 project for the very low-income elderly and those with needs for the accessible features of designated apartments. In order to be eligible an applicant must be at least 62 years of age or require an apartment with accessible features, be able to maintain his/her own apartment, and have an annual income of no more than $23,750 for one person or $27,150 for a couple. Custodial, personal or nursing care, supervision, observation, and personal assistance are NOT available. There is no staff on site after working hours and weekends to assist with emergency evacuation. Each application is reviewed on an individual basis, solely in terms of the above eligibility requirements.
